Use case: reviewing cloud spending before a renewal decision

THE SCENARIO

Illustrative scenario: a business sees rising cloud spending but cannot explain which workloads drive it. A focused review can connect resources to owners, identify change options and improve the evidence behind a renewal or capacity decision.

Establish a baseline

Collect representative billing and utilisation information under approved access. Map costs to applications, environments and owners. Identify unusual peaks and recurring charges before proposing savings.

Build a decision list

Separate unused resources, sizing opportunities and commercial options. For each item, record the expected effect, dependency, risk and approver. Do not combine all recommendations into one unverified saving figure.

Test changes in sequence

Begin with changes whose impact can be understood and measured. Use maintenance windows and rollback where needed. Review application performance and recovery requirements before making commitments or removing capacity.

Evaluate the result

Compare spending and service behaviour after the approved changes. Explain differences caused by demand, new projects or vendor prices. A lower bill is useful only if the required business service remains intact.

Next step

Prepare workload owners, billing scope and known business peaks for the review. This is an illustrative workflow; actual opportunities and savings depend on the environment and are established during assessment.
