Do you need an LMS, custom eLearning content, or both?

THE SHORT ANSWER

An LMS manages learning access, assignment and records. eLearning content provides the training itself. You may need one or both, depending on whether the current problem is administration, learning quality or a missing training programme.

Identify what is failing today

If staff cannot access training or managers cannot see completion, the platform may need attention. If employees complete courses but still cannot perform the task, the content and learning design need review. Replacing the LMS alone will not solve every training problem.

Define the learning outcome

State what the employee should be able to do after training. Use realistic tasks and assessments linked to that outcome. Completion is useful administration data, but it is not the same as demonstrated competence.

Check compatibility with the existing environment

Confirm supported content formats, reporting, user provisioning and mobile access. Test the actual content in the intended LMS before committing to a larger production run. A format claim does not prove that every tracking requirement will work as expected.

Plan ownership after launch

Name the people who update the material, support learners and review performance. Policies and products change; training must be maintainable. Keep source files and handover requirements in the contract.

Choose the platform and content scope together when both need improvement. The project should make learning easier to administer and more useful to the employee.
